It’s that time of year…..after over-indulging over Christmas and New Year, many of us are thinking about how we can shed a few pounds, tone up and feel less sluggish.
You will not have failed to notice the adverts, articles, television programmes, DVDs and slimming products that are now everywhere you look. Detoxing is also widely promoted as a means of kick-starting the process, with dubious claims that certain foods and juices will detoxify your body after a few days. However, did you know that massage is proven to be a great way of eliminating toxins from your body?
So, what are toxins?
As the name suggests, toxins are poisonous substances usually produced by bacteria and they can be very harmful to the body. When the body gets sluggish due to overeating or eating unhealthily, lack of exercise or too little fluids, it can be less efficient at flushing out these toxins. The stagnant toxins may lead to health conditions such as:
- Skin eruptions
- Joint pain
- Colds
- Auto immune diseases
- Chronic fatigue
- Psychological symptoms, such as anxiety and depression
Massage movements can actively encourage the elimination of body toxins and boost your body’s immune system but how?
Well, since these toxins are circulating through the bloodstream, massage therapy works to improve the circulation and promote blood flow to your organs, tissues, and muscles. The toxins are then squeezed out from between cells and muscle fibres and can be flushed out of the body more easily. Massage therapy also encourages the lymphatic system, which plays a crucial role in pushing out toxins and boosting your immune system to defend against illness.
Here at the Garden Room, we use locally produced oils from Aqua Oleum in Thrupp. By using oils especially blended to address toxins, the effects of the massage are further enhanced.
“Purity” massage oil contains grapefruit and geranium. It is an invigorating blend and great for toning and stimulating, helping to eliminate toxins, reducing water retention and assisting in combating cellulite. Purity was a winner in the Best Aromatherapy Product Beauty Awards, 2017.
Whilst massage is not the only answer, in reality, what is? However, when experienced as part of a healthy diet and lifestyle, you may well see some of the following benefits:
- More energy
- Stronger immune system
- Improved skin and hair
- Clearer thinking
- Better muscle tone and reduced tension
- Less aches and pains
- Better sense of wellbeing – less stress
